Haliburton looking for volunteers to help with the 20,000 Homes Campaign

Haliburton is looking for some help gathering information on health and social needs of those experiencing homelessness. The county, along with the City of Kawartha Lakes, are looking for 40 volunteers to help with Registry Week for this year’s 20,000 Homes Campaign, which runs from May 28th to June 1st.

Manager of Housing Hope Lee says the goal of Registry Week is to identify people in the community who are experiencing homelessness and to find out more about what they need. She says those surveyed will be prioritized for housing and support based on their needs. Teams will be led by professionals and will canvas the community to complete a short survey of residents who don’t have a home.

If you want to volunteer, email Jocelyn Blazey at jblazey@kawarthalakes.ca.

The 20,000 Homes Campaign is a Canada-wide initiative which focuses on ending chronic homelessness in 20 communities and housing 20,000 of Canada’s most vulnerable homeless people by July 1, 2020. The City of Kawartha Lakes and Haliburton County Council committed to a goal to house 24 of the most vulnerable homeless in our area by July 1, 2018. As of now, 52 people have been housed in the community.
