Flood watch issued for some local waterways

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has issued a flood watch for a number of local rivers.

The MNRF says flooding is possible along the Black, Burnt, York, and Little Mississippi rivers. Flows in the York and Little Mississippi rivers are rising quickly because of the recent rain and melting snow. Flows in the Burnt and Gull rivers are also going up steadily, but are still at the average level for this time of year.

The MNRF’s flood outlook statement remains in effect for the rest of the Bancroft District, which is an early notice that flooding is possible based on the forecast.

Anyone with a history of flooding is encouraged to make sure their sump pumps work and secure anything that could float away if water levels rise. The MNRF says you should also be cautious near fast-move rivers and streams.
