The Mayor of Highlands East wants to continue serving the municipality. Dave Burton filed his nomination papers yesterday and will be looking for his fourth term as the head of council. Burton says he was not sure if he would seek re-election but says he is in good health to take on the job for another four years.

Burton adds a key focus of his campaign will be pushing to improve high-speed internet and cell service in Highlands East.

Burton says continuing the improvement of the municipality’s roads is another key point of his platform. He mentions that he is in negotiations to bring a physician to Highlands East.

Burton is the first mayoral candidate to file his nomination papers. Anyone who wants to run for office in any of the four municipalities and townships in Haliburton County has until July 27th to do so.
