Renovations to the S.G. Nesbitt Memorial Arena could cost $9,648,657.55.
At a special meeting of the council yesterday, renovations to the Minden Arena was on the agenda. Council accepted the price estimates of just under $10 million for renovations that would include new dressing rooms, offices, LED lighting, an accessibility elevator, and resurfacing of the parking lot.
Council asked that staff work with the Ottawa based Construction group MacDonald Brothers Construction and return with a Construction Management contract with a maximum price range for next Friday’s meeting of council.
Council put forth the idea that 50% of the cost savings be redirected into project upgrades, and the other 50% go back into the Construction Management contract.
Not included in the cost estimates was a swimming pool that Mark Coleman, the Director of Community Services, says would cost an additional $6-8 million.
