Bear encounter in Haliburton, man sustains injuries

An encounter with a black bear has left a man and his dog with a few injuries. On Sunday, a man at his Wonderland Road residence went outside after he heard his dog yelping. He saw the dog with a black bear and tried to intervene. The bear turned on him and he sustained injuries in the process. The bear left after the encounter.
He drove himself to the hospital where he was treated for injuries and Haliburton Highlands OPP were contacted.
OPP are reminding everyone that bears in the area are common.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry have initiated an investigation.
