Health Unit Launches Campaign to Bring Attention To Health Care Ahead of Election

The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge Health Unit has launched a health-centric campaign.

The HKPR announced that they are campaigning for the health of all, heading into the October 22nd municipal election. “Health Matters Here” is the slogan of the campaign designed to remind voters and candidates alike that the health of constituents should be considered when you cast your vote next month.

Leading into the election, “Health Matters Here” is supposed to outline how decisions about municipal services, programs, facilities, policies and planning can support the healthy choices of the voter. The campaign is also hoping to educate the potential candidates of the important role that municipal governments play in creating healthy, active communities.

Sarah Tsang, the Health Equity Coordinator with HKPR, says that “we’re just asking people to get to know their candidates and make health a priority” adding that health is “largely impacted by the places we live.” Tsang says that they want voters to consider health care when they meet the candidates and ask them about issues that it.

Tsang says that the campaign focuses on health as a whole and not just one aspect of it.

“Everything a municipality does impacts the health of our entire community. And so we need to tell municipal candidates that they need to use their powers responsibly and take health into account with all decisions.”
