Rabies vaccination clinic coming to Haliburton

The HKPR district health unit is asking local pet owners to make sure their pet is protected from rabies. The Health Unit is working with veterinarians across the district to offer low-cost rabies clinics.

Manager of Environmental Health, Richard Ovcharovich says rabies can be fatal if it’s left untreated. It’s a virus that attacks the nerves and brain of an animal. People and animals can get rabies by being bitten, scratched or having an open wound licked by a rabid animal.

According to the Health Unit, it is mandatory in our area for pet owners to get rabies vaccinations for their dogs and cats. HKPR has partnered with Haliburton Veterinary Services to provide a clinic on Saturday October 4 at the Haliburton Fire Hall. It will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and will cost $25 per animal, cash only.

The Health Unit is asking that all dogs to be on leashes, and cats to be in carriers. For more information, go to the HKPR website.
