MPP Encouraging Parents Give Their Feedback on Student Curriculum

Parents in Ontario are being given the chance to give feedback on what’s taught to their kids.

When the provincial government reverted to the 1998 sex-ed curriculum, Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock MPP Laurie Scott told the My Haliburton Now Newsroom that the old curriculum was a placeholder until a new one could be designed with the help of parental feedback.

Parents looking to give their feedback can do so by going to the Ontario Government’s website. Scott says that so far there has been “a huge turnout” by parents, but adds that they want more feedback.

Scott explained that they are looking for parents’ thoughts on a number of items, not just health and physical education. “We are asking lots of questions about the whole curriculum,” says Scott. Scott put emphasis on the fact that parents can give feedback on the math curriculum as well, adding “we’ve seen our math scores not be what we want them to be.”

According to Scott, anyone that has the time should offer their thoughts on where the curriculum needs work, adding that this is the largest ever consultation on education in Ontario. The deadline for the consultation is December 15th of this year.
