Haliburton students hold unofficial vote for municipal election

Students across Haliburton are getting a chance to weigh in on the municipal election.

Non-profit organization CIVIX connected with schools across the province to allow students to try out voting a bit early. Teachers were provided with free learning materials to educate the kids on the election process and help them decide who to vote for. CIVIX officials say over 150,000 students across the province cast their ballots.

Schools involved in Haliburton included Haliburton Highlands, J. Douglas Hodgson and Archie Stouffer. You can find a list of all student-elected winning candidates below (Haliburton and Algonquin Highlands were not included in the student vote results):

Dysart:

Mayor – Murray Fearrey, 154 votes
Deputy Mayor – Dennis Casey, 165 votes
Councillor, Ward 1 – Bram Lebo, 88 votes
Councillor, Ward 2 – David McKay, 41 votes
Councillor, Ward 3 – Cindy Baumhour, 57 votes
Councillor, Ward 4 – John Smith, 38 votes
Councillor, Ward 5 – Walt McKechnie, 42 votes

Minden Hills:

Mayor – Jarrett Campbell, 13 votes
Councillor-at-Large – Ron Nesbitt, 11 votes
Councillor, Ward 1 – Jennifer Hughey, 12 votes
Councillor, Ward 1 – Rob Luke, 7 votes
