Hunters Beware When Heating your Camp

If you’re a hunter, the Fire Department wants you to be safe when heating wherever you make camp.

With hunting season in full swing, the Minden Hills Fire Department is encouraging all hunters to install smoke detectors, and carbon monoxide detectors in your cabin, trailer or at your hunting camp.

The fire department also strongly encourages all your cooking or heating appliances like woodstoves, propane heaters, kerosene heaters, naphtha heaters, and lanterns be cleaned thoroughly.

A malfunctioning appliance is not the only safety concern will staying warm says the fire department. If you make a cabin or house your base camp, the fire department says that it’s important to get the chimney swept and inspected regularly as that build up of creosote can cause a chimney fire.

Wherever you make camp it is a good idea to keep a phone or radio on you in case of emergencies.
