Oblong Lake at 30 Year Low

The water level in Oblong Lake is making history for a not so good reason.

The Haliburton Lake Cottagers Association says that the lake is lower than a 30-year average. According to the latest water levels taken by Parks Canada, Oblong lake is sitting at 1.56 metres, with the average being 1.68.

The water levels of lakes in the Trent Severn Waterway go up and done regularly through the year for a process known as drawdown. Drawdown pulls the water from lakes further north to service the needs of lakes lower in the watershed.

At the current levels, Oblong Lake is roughly a metre lower than it has been in previous years at this time.
