MNRF recruiting locals to join Forest Management Citizens Committee

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is looking to get locals involved in forest management.

MNRF officials announced they are looking for local people to join their ranks in the Bancroft District Office as a member of the Local Citizens Committee for both Bancroft-Minden and Mazinaw-Lanark forest management units.

According to the MNRF, the LCC is a volunteer committee that represents a broad range of local interests, as well as creates a chance for further public consultation with the MNRF, the Sustainable Forest Licensee, as well as Bancroft-Minden Forest Company, and Mazinaw-Lanark Forest Inc.

MNRF explains they are looking for members that can represent naturalists and the interests of waterfront property owners. If you do not have forest management experience that is not required because they will give an orientation and training. They note that travel expenses can be reimbursed at approved government rates.

If you are going to apply, you will be required to attend two to four meetings a year. The Bancroft-Minden LCC meetings are held in the evening in Bancroft. Members of the committee will need to commit to a minimum one year term, and actively participate in the meetings with timely input and present the interests of the groups they represent.

The deadline to apply is January 31st, 2019.
