What to do over the Christmas break

With Christmas less than a week away, here are some activities you can do over the holiday.

Although many businesses are closed, there is still lots to do in Haliburton County. In terms of things to do, the Haliburton County tourism department says you can enjoy public skating at the A.J. LaRue Arena, the S.G. Nesbitt arena, and the Keith Tallman arena, or at the outdoor rinks in Dorset, and Stanhope. Another batch of outdoor activities they suggest is going skiing, snowshoeing or snowmobiling which can be done at the Haliburton Forest, the Frost Centre in Algonquin Highlands, Sir Sams, and the various trails around the county.

Also going on through the holidays is horse-drawn sleigh rides, moccasin making workshops, and an advanced wilderness first aid course. Although many businesses are closed for Christmas there are restaurants open for anyone that wants to avoid cooking. County staff note that anyone that will be alone on Christmas can go to McKeck’s in Haliburton Village for Christmas dinner.

The county says there are several events going on across the county for New Year’s Eve. That list can be found by clicking here.
