HKPR urging smokers to butt out in the new year

The health unit is hoping that smokers will add quitting to their New Year’s resolutions.

Although smoking cigarettes and cannabis are both legal, the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge Health Unit is encouraging everyone to try and include butting out in the plans for the new year.

HKPR offers a number of resources to help smokers kick the habit, including the contact information for quitting smoking help lines and the STOP Program. STOP stands for Smoking Treatment for Ontario Patients. The program is a no-charging quitting smoking program that gives access to five weeks worth of nicotine patches and other resources. To find out more about the STOP Program call  1-866-888-4577, ext. 2202.

Aside from the helplines and STOP, the health unit has links to the Canadian Lung Association, the Smokers Helpline, and the WouldURather contest that has smokers quitting as part of a contest.
