Food Bank use in Haliburton County gone up substantially over the past year

Ontario’s Hunger Count for 2014 has been released and food bank use has increased by one percent. But, Chair of the Haliburton County FoodNet, Robert Spurrier says it’s a different story locally.

Spurrier says numbers are increasing substantially across the county. He’s also the coordinator of the Cardiff Food Bank, and he explains how many boxes he gives out every month.

There are a variety of fundraisers for the Food Banks during the holiday season including the Christmas Challenge and the Radiothon on December 11 and 12 on Moose FM. Organizers are asking to have your donations in by the second week of December if you’d like them to go toward the Christmas boxes.
