An array of health clinics coming to the Haliburton area

HALIBURTON, ON – The health unit has a handful of free events coming up in November residents may want to mark on their calendars.

First on the docket for the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit (HKPRDH) is a food handlers course on the 7th. It will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Haliburton facility.

This class will teach students how to handle and prepare food safely. A registered food handler certificate will be issued upon completion, which is good for five years. The course costs $40 per person.

An immunization clinic is also being put on November 13th, specifically for families without a doctor. The vaccines will be free at the HKPRDH building in Haliburton.

There will be two sexual health clinics on November 13th and later on in the month on the 27th.

The clinics will provide discrete testing and treatment of sexually transmitted infections. Confidential access to cervical screening, low-cost birth control, pregnancy testing and sexual health teaching will also be available.

Both will run from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the health unit’s facility in Haliburton.

The HKPRDH will then bring a Meet the Dietician event to Minden on November 19th. The course will be from 10 a.m. to noon at the  Minden EarlyON Centre. The health unit’s dietician will explain to parents how to feed their infants, toddlers or preschoolers and learn about healthy snacks for the whole family.
