An investment of just over one million dollars per year was just announced for the Haliburton Highlands Health Services. The money is being used to start up new services to seniors and caregivers in the community. Health Services CEO Varouj Eskedjian explains what the goal behind the new services will be.

Some of the services include a Palliative Care Community Team and Assisted Living for high risk seniors. Eskedjian describes what one of the programs, the Rural Geriatric Assessment and Intervention Network (GAIN), will look like.

Eskedjian says that while seniors are the primary users of health and community services in Haliburton County, these new programs have more than one benefit.

He says each service has a different timeline for when it will be up and running, but the GAIN team will hopefully be operational by late spring or early summer. He says the other programs could be started as early as six to eight weeks.
