Source Water Protection Plan to move forward in Highlands East

Legislation from the Province is being implemented in Highlands East this year. Planning Assistant Andrea Stillman made the presentation to council yesterday about the Source Water Protection Plan for the municipality. According to her report, Highlands East has 18 threats on ten pieces of property. A Risk Management Official was appointed to implement the plan to protect drinking water. Stillman says funding from the province, which adds up to over 70 thousand dollars, will offset the majority of costs associated with the projects. Stillman says by the end of this year, she wants to finish the public education and outreach plan. The project will also include training staff, passing by-laws, policies and plans. Council agreed to work with Stillman and start implementing the plan.
