Business owner gets assistance from council

Highlands East councilors have agreed to look into the struggles of local development. Allan Clark is the owner of Vacation Investment Properties and at yesterday’s council meeting, he asked for their help to offset costs. He bought the property on Dark Lake in 2007 hoping to build waterfront condos, but has run into delays with the MOE and lawsuits. At the meeting, he apologized to council for coming to them with his head in his hands, but he says he’s at a point where he’s ready to give up because he simply can’t incur the costs anymore. He explained to council that the cost for tipping fees to the local landfill was over and above what was originally decided upon. Councilors agreed what he’s trying to do with the property would be a huge benefit to the municipality. They decided to look into where the costs are coming from and if there is some work that can be done.
