MPP Laurie Scott announces funding to help plan for nearby wellness centre

Provincial funding will support the planning for a new wellness centre in Coboconk, about 50 minutes away from Haliburton.

Laurie Scott, MPP for Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock, said Wednesday that $175,000 will be invested into the plan that will see the Kawartha North Family Health Team and Coboconk, Norland and Area Chamber of Commerce team up. She adds that other health service providers will be involved once the centre is up and running to “improve access to high-quality, timely community-based programs and services.”

The wellness centre will be located halfway between the hospitals in Linsday and Miden and, according to Scott, will provide patients in the surrounding areas care in a location closer to home.

“The Summit Wellness Centre will be a hub for community health and community space for the under-served northern areas of Kawartha Lakes,”, said Ian Forster, Chair of the Coboconk, Norland & Area Chamber of Commerce. “By working together with other community organizations and the Kawartha North Family Health Team, the centre will deliver a range of vital wellness services to the community.”

“This funding is great news for communities in Kawartha Lakes and a critical first step in getting the new Summit Wellness Centre underway in Coboconk,” Scott says. “We’re one step closer to being able to provide important health care services closer to home and all under one roof.”
