Drug charge laid in Algonquin Highlands car crash

A Minden resident is facing several charges after crashing their car into a ditch.

Haliburton Highlands OPP says just before 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, a patrol car’s licence plate camera spotted a car with an outstanding offence, on Hwy 118 near 25th Line Rd. in Algonquin Highlands.

According to police, the vehicle then crashed into a ditch, with the driver fleeing on foot and being caught shortly after. Two other people from the car were taken to a medical facility for non-life-threatening injuries.

Officials say the driver, a 42-year-old from Minden, is being charged with possession of cocaine, careless driving, and not stopping at an accident, among other offences. They were released from custody ahead of a May 3 court date.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information or footage is asked to contact the detachment at 705-286-1431.
