Algonquin Highlands is clarifying a property ownership issue on Maple Lake.
The township says the public access point on North Shore Road near Dawson Road is municipal land, despite what officials describe as a small group of residents claiming to own the property to members of the public.
Officials say the property has traditionally been used for ice fishing and emergency lake access, and “no claims of private ownership through any credible documentation or otherwise.”
The township says it has issued no-trespass orders to those residents, and the Haliburton Highlands OPP detachment is aware of the issue, adding to contact police at 705-286-1431 if you feel harassed or threatened while using the property.
