Sixty-six per cent of Canadian based mass marketing frauds occurred to victims online through the internet or e-mail, so for Fraud Prevention Month, Haliburton Highlands OPP is asking you to join the conversation.
Officers are sending out fraud prevention tips and resources through social media all month long to raise awareness and to make sure people are being safe.

In 2014, over 13 thousand victims of mass marketing fraud lost a total of just under 69 million dollars. The majority of victims were between 50 and 70 years old, and only five per cent of them actually report the fraud.
OPP is reminding people that reporting frauds can prevent further victimization.
