Potential changes to Planning Act could raise problems for Haliburton County

Some proposed changes at the provincial level have some County staff scratching their heads. A new bill is proposing some changes to the planning act.

The County’s Director of Planning gave the highlights to council at yesterday’s meeting, saying the proposed changes are raising a lot of questions. A few of them would mean that councils would only be allowed to pass one zoning by-law change every two years, which Warden Murray Fearrey said would freeze the process.

Planning departments across the county are working together to get some answers before the bill goes to a second reading in June.
