Council’s hands are tied in septage facility application

It doesn’t look like Algonquin Highlands council can take any action on a proposed septic disposal site. They were hoping the property owner would have to apply to re-zone his land in order to put it in, but that’s not the case. According to Reeve Carol Moffatt, spreading bio solids is considered agricultural use to the Ontario Municipal Board.

The property is on Highway 118 and 25th Line Road and an application to the Ministry of the Environment has already been submitted.

A local group called Our Grandchildren Matter Too, Save Maple Lake says the MOE has told them studies will be done and experts will be looking at the site.
