The application is in to receive some provincial funding for Haliburton County’s Rural Transportation Options Committee. Heather Ross is a member and she explains why they had to go to Dysart and County councils before they could apply.

The committee, which started in 2010, is now a part of the Haliburton County Community Cooperative. Originally, the group was under the umbrella of Environment Haliburton, but Ross explains how they’ve shifted their focus.

Ross says since then, they’ve focused on connecting people with transportation options like a Rideshare program. If they’re successful, the money would fund a two year pilot project.

Ross says the social marketing campaign will help educate people on how to use a Rideshare program and what transportation options there are in the County. She says the committee is also working on a Rideshare website and they’re hoping to announce the launch date at the U-Links Celebration of Research event in March. She also says they don’t expect to hear about their application to the province for a few months.
