PLCA to host astronaut Dave Williams, preparing for 50th anniversary regatta

The Paudash Lake Conservation Association must be over-the-moon excited about a guest it’s hosting soon.

Astronaut Dave Williams will be the speaker at its Annual General Meeting.

The event is at 9 a.m. on Sunday, July 30 at the Cardiff Community Centre. Everyone is welcome.

Williams completed spaceflights in 1998 and 2007 and has completed three spacewalks in his time.

PLCA President Mike Thomas will also speak at the event and update members on the work of the association, which protects the cottage-laden lake, just west of Bancroft.

Regatta celebrates Paudash Lake Conservation Association’s 50th year

Also, the Paudash Lake Conservation Association’s annual regatta is always a big day. But this year’s event will have added significance.

When boats hit the water on Saturday, Aug. 5, the Association will also be celebrating its 50th year.

Thomas says he’s expecting a larger than normal turnout this year, as many cottagers from the area celebrate the milestone.

“We do typical regatta things, both on water and land, in terms of races and sack races and egg tossing,” he says.

“This year we’ve added more things. One in particular is the dunk tank. Various people, and I’m sure I’ll be one of them as President, will be sitting on the board and people will throw to try to hit the target and try to drop the person into the very cold water.”

The event runs at North Bay Beach, from 11 a.m. to mid-afternoon. There will be opportunities for people to make donations to Haliburton County-based food banks.
