Highlands East draft 2026 budget proposes 5.96% tax rate increase

Residents in Highlands East could see their taxes increase by 5.96 per cent this year.

Officials say this equates to a tax increase of about $35 dollars per $100,000 dollars worth of assessment.

A 2026 draft budget was presented to council at a meeting on Feb. 17.

Officials say, along with a tax increase, this year’s budget also includes four per cent water and wastewater rate increase.

Notable capital expenditures in this year’s budget include $265,000 for the purchase of a new one tonne truck with a dumpbox and sander, the $350,000 rehabilitation of Hadlington Road, and $140,000 rehabilitation of South Wilberforce Road, among others.
