It looks like Haliburton County could be leaders in saving the lives of turtles. Another year of the Turtle Road Mortality Mitigation Project has wrapped up, and the data looks good.
According to the Haliburton Highlands Land Trust, the drift fence they installed last year is working to keep turtles off the road. The project’s Wildlife Biologist, Paul Heaven says next year they’ll be able to analyze the data and say with confidence that this is a solution that works.
